MY FAVORITE KITCHEN TOOLS FOR EVERYDAY USE
You know you are a true Minnesotan when it is 36 out and you go out without a coat. The week has been so gorgeous with sunny days. It always lifts my spirits and makes me feel so good to have some sun on my face even if it’s through the window of the living room.
Today I am sharing my favorite kitchen tools for everyday use. These are small appliances to my favorite rubber spatulas that I reach for everyday. These might also help you out with that person that is so hard to buy for! I know my mother-in-law and daughters like to get their hands on the latest gadgets.
There are such fabulous sales going on for Christmas right now for the Kitchenaid Stand mixer. The best deal I found is at Kohl’s…with this purchase you get $50 in Kohl’s cash which is like getting it for $229! They also have some great deals on attachments. The ones I use the most are the Fresh Prep Slicer/Shredder (great for veggies & cheese!), this Spiralizer is a life saver and saves so much time! I love to grind my own chicken and beef and this Meat Grinder is so fast and easy. One more thing, if you want to upgrade to a gorgeous bowl check this one out!
This Ninja Coffeemaker is the one I have been using for the last two years. It’s still going strong and I like that you can make a cup, half pot or a full pot plus, with an iced feature it knows just the right amount of espresso to add for the perfect cup. A great basic coffeemaker. If you want to splurge a bit this is a great one!
These containers from OXO have been amazing! Not only do they keep all my flours, sugars and salts fresh they look good and help keep my pantry organized. The button pops up and down to make sure it is sealed for freshness and doubles as a handle. Here is a 10 pack to get you started if you will need more than 5. I like that they are clear so I can easily see what’s inside. I’m so glad that I made this investment.
Here is another set from OXO that I love! Yes, love. I reach for these measuring cups for all my baking and cooking measurements. Why do I like these so much? I’m glad you asked. They have the measurements on the inside and outside! How many times are you measuring something and bending down to look on the side to see if you have the right amount of ingredients. With these you can see it right from the top. Genius! Everyone needs a set of these.
I must admit I was intimidated at first by a pressure cooker. I had heard great things about them, but you know all the horror stories you heard from your grandmother. This is nothing like that and I use mine ALL. THE. TIME. Soup in 20 minutes and chicken in 8? Yes, thank you! They have even gotten more sophisticated since I got mine a few years ago. This Instant Pot (pressure cooker…it’s the same thing) is a great deal and I’m loving the new dial on it.
If you don’t have an air fryer yet…RUN and get one right now! I have this exact one from GoWise and I picked it because it has a divider that you can use if you want to cook two different foods. It’s great for when I want to cook some chicken and fries at the same time or 2 different kind of veggies. I could go on and on what you can cook in here, but I think you get the idea. Is it like a convection oven? Yes. BUT you don’t have to warm up your whole oven and it is A LOT faster! Plus, super easy to clean.
I bought this wine rack a few years ago because I wanted something strong and sturdy. It is the perfect fit for our pantry and I like that you can stack multiples together for as many bottles as you need. Also, since it is unfinished wood you can paint it or stain it to match your decor. Easy to put together, too!
My son got this Electric Wine Opener for me for Christmas last year. It has been great! I use it all the time and it’s the easiest wine bottle opener I have used to date. I also sucks the air back out of the wine bottle for you…no more manually pumping the air out when you don’t finish a bottle. Just plug it in to recharge it. I keep it plugged in, but the charge really lasts for a long time.
After researching juicers for awhile and talking to my brother-in-law who went to a wellness spa in Florida when he was fighting cancer (he’s all cured) where he learned a lot about juicers. This one from Hurom is pricey, but worth every penny. I learned that you want your juice to be made with a slower process because when it extracts the juice too fast you loose essential nutrients. This one is just 43 revolutions per minute mimicking the motion of hand squeezing juice. Don’t worry it’s not super slow like it sounds. It makes wonderful almond milk (so easy) and I was impressed when I put grapes in it…awesome sweet juice. It removes all the skins from your fruits and veggies plus, relatively easy to clean. You can throw the parts in the dishwasher. This is a great juicer for the investment in your health.
I use these mini spatulas for everything! Cooking eggs, getting peanut butter out of the jar, scraping that last bit of brownie batter out of the bowl…you get the idea. I got my first set at TjMaxx, but they are getting harder to find. Of course, I found them here on Amazon. You will want a set, maybe two.
Mr. Tom bought me these mixing bowls from Williams Sonoma at least 7 years ago and they still look like new and I use them just about everyday. Seriously. They come in 5 colors. They have a non-slip ring on the bottom to help them not move around while mixing and a pouring spout. You will really like these!
Mr. Tom and I have been married for 32 years and I still have some of the original knives we got for our wedding. It pays to invest in good knives. As a good chef once said, “A dull knife is a dangerous knife.” I’m not saying I’m a good chef, but a good knife is amazing to work with. If I could only have one knife in my kitchen it would be this one here…Zwilling J.A. Henckels Four Star II Hollow-Ground Santoku Knife. My daughter has one on her Christmas list. This is the one she grabs every time she cooks at my house. This is the perfect one to start out your collection.
I have talked about my obsession with Fiesta Dishes before, but I couldn’t write a post about my favorite kitchen items and leave them out. I have 10 different colors now. I buy them in sets of 4 and I like to mix the colors together depending on the time of the year. I usually have 2 or 3 colors out at a time. Also, some other pieces that I use are the platters in various sizes and bowls. They are strong and durable and you can use them straight from the freezer to the oven. Just one warning…it’s addictive. Watch Kohl’s for sales…they do 2 for 1 all the time. I’ve never paid full price for them.
I sound like a broken record, but this IS a post on my favorites. I have 2 of these pie pans and yep, the ones I always use first. Just look at those scalloped edges! I have had mine for years and they still look like new.
I confess. I have an unhealthy obsession with this coffee machine. It’s expensive. It grinds fresh beans. It’s expensive. It makes LOTS of different coffees. It’s expensive. It has a built in milk frother. It’s expensive. I wouldn’t have to buy pods anymore. It’s expensive. It’s a beauty. It’s expensive. You see my dilemma. Let me introduce you to the magnificent Saeco PicoBarista.
You can see where I used the red scalloped pie dish HERE and HERE.
