Hi friends happy Friday! Do you have any weekend plans? We have BIG plans! Cleaning out the garage. LOL Since stores are opening back up that means we can make a trip to the Goodwill for donations that have gotten piled up. It felt so good to clean out those closets and now it’s time to finish the job.
The week before last we spent it at a lake house that we rented and had the most relaxing time. The kids came up for a few days and we boated, fished and had a bonfire every night complete with smores. One night we had homemade pizza made by my daughter and her boyfriend and another night my oldest daughter and her husband made a delicious lemon garlic chicken. It was so nice to sit back and let them have the kitchen!
With Mr. Tom having melanoma and surgery last year I have been diligent about sunscreen and hats for him (and me) and was excited to find clothing that has UPF 50+ protection built into them. Cabana Life has so many great pieces and I love all the vibrant colors. We lived in their clothes all week long. This is not a sponsored post. Just sharing my love of this company and the quality of their products. They have my vote for all your summer protection!
Hat // Rashguard (top) wearing a Large // Swimskirt wearing a Large
If you are like me, I was wondering what is UPF? I have heard of SPF and wasn’t real sure…here is some information from Cabana Life.
WHY UPF 50+?
-Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) measures a fabric’s effectiveness against both UVA & UVB light.
-UPF 50+ is the highest fabric rating available, blocking 98% of UVA & UVB rays.
-UVA rays make you look old before your time.
-This sneaky stream creeps through clouds and glitters through glass.
-UVB rays cause skin to burn, and are strongest in the summer midday hours.
Rashguard-Top // Swim Trunks (both in an XL…Mr.Tom is 5′ 10″ and 205 lbs.)
Mr. Tom really liked the colors and quality of the top and shorts that I picked for him. The top is a swimsuit material and was great for an evening kayak ride when it was cooling off and helped deter the mosquitoes, too! He wore it during the day on the boat for the long sleeved protection and stayed cool while wearing it. Don’t let it turn you off because it is long sleeves, it is a breathable material!
This might surprise you:
– One in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime.
– More than 5 sunburns = double the risk for melanoma
– Parents slack on sun protection as their kids get older.
– 42% of men and 27% of women never use sunscreen. (Gasp!)
– One person dies of melanoma every hour (every 54 minutes)
Ways to protect yourself from the rays:
- Protect your skin in UPF clothing
- The bigger the brimmed hat, the safer your skin…get a BIG one!
- Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours
- Be a shade seeker

Why we are passionate about sun protection (from Cabana Life)
Skin cancer is the one preventable cancer. Yet the skin cancer rate is on the rise, and people are still grumbling about slathering on sunscreen every day.
Although sunscreen is still a go-to part of any morning routine–after the coffee, of course–clothing is the first line of defense against the sun. And that sun is out whether you’re doing yoga on the beach, running to the store, rushing to your morning meeting or grabbing lunch with friends.
UV radiation does more than make you look like a lobster and cause skin cancer. It makes you look older than you feel.
An estimated 90% of skin aging is caused by the sun.
Let’s face it—you’re not going to hide out from the sun your whole life. Now you have an option for sun protection that gets you excited to embrace the day, no matter what you’re getting yourself into.
Stay safe friends and have the best Summer ever!!!
